Psychological issues relating to infertility
Although the causes of infertility are predominantly physiological, the physical and emotional hurdles of infertility treatment can have a huge negative psychological impact (Harvard Medical School, 2009). There is a breadth of research studies indicating the psychological impact of infertility, including shock and grief, which can contribute to the development of depression and anxiety. A significant proportion of individuals experiencing infertility issues report symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression, in addition to the negative impact that infertility issues can have on a couple’s relationship.
