Schema Therapy

Dr Rose is a Certified Schema Therapist and through her experience she believes that Schema Therapy can be a very effective treatment for clients with trauma, chronic low self-esteem, self-destructive behaviours, interpersonal/relationship difficulties, eating disorders, personality disorder, paranoia and/or those who have been unable to benefit from previous courses of therapy. Many of her existing clients have reported that this approach has helped them to make sense of their difficulties and change long-standing negative life patterns.

Couples Therapy & Family Therapy

Dr Rose has completed post-graduate training in Systemic Therapy which is typically used in Couples Therapy and Family Therapy to work with couples and families who are experiencing conflict and transitions in their relationships. However, this approach can also be used on an individual basis to help you understand current problems in your relationship/family (e.g. persistent conflict) and work on ways to develop more harmonious interactions.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Dr Rose has undertaken specialist training in EMDR which is an evidence-based treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), i.e. psychological difficulties arising from traumatic experiences such as military combat, torture, violent assault, road traffic accidents, natural or man-made disasters, sexual abuse and childhood neglect.

Mentalization Based Treatment

Dr Rose has also completed specialist training in Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) which is particularly helpful in enabling clients to develop better emotional regulation and behavioural control skills, so that they can have more fulfilling and satisfying relationships. This approach can be helpful for you if you have anger management problems, personality disorder, eating disorders, impulsive and/or self-destructive behaviours.

Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

During her final (elective) year of doctoral training Dr Rose specialised in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy. Both of these approaches can help you explore unconscious mental processes (i.e. those which you are consciously unaware of) which may underpin problematic behaviours or long standing unhelpful life patterns.

Grief Therapy

Dr Rose has extensive experience of providing therapy to help people who have difficulties coming to terms with the death a loved one/close other. Grief therapy can be helpful if you have struggled for a long period of time to come to terms with a bereavement, you are having difficulties adapting to a change in role and/or feelings of guilt following bereavement.

Mindfulness

Dr Rose often encourages clients to use Mindfulness exercises to help them manage anxiety, depressive and racing thoughts particularly in conjunction with CBT. Many clients report that they can significantly notice the difference in the intensity of their negative thoughts after using Mindfulness techniques.

In collaboration with you, you would discuss and decide together with Dr Rose which type of therapeutic approach will be most suitable to address your current problems. Sometimes this may involve integrating and combining psychotherapy approaches to meet your specific needs.
