Psychosexual difficulties generally refers to sexual problems which have developed due to psychological issues, or might have originally been caused by a physiological problem but the difficulty is maintained by psychological factors. Often psychosexual difficulties have an impact on sexual fulfilment and emotional wellbeing as well as impacting on one’s intimate relationships or meeting a partner. Psychosexual difficulties affect both men and women and include, but are not limited to, the following conditions:
- Painful sex (also known as vaginismus and dyspareunia)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature and delayed ejaculation
- Difficulties with orgasm
- Low or lack of desire
- Compulsive sexual behaviours e.g. pornography addiction
- Psychological and psychosexual difficulties associated with Chemsex
